Yesterday was the kick-off meeting for the European Podcast Award. I was introduced to some of my fellow Ambassadors (I’m the Award’s UK one, by the way) including Michel, Jose and Karin.
This award is monumentally important for a range of reasons:
- Everyone involved, from the founders and sponsor (Olympus Audio Systems) through to the Ambassadors, are absolutely devoted to furthering the awareness of podcasting as a medium for learning, sharing and creating change
- The volume of knowledge contained among Award participants is mind-boggling. Last night we talked about the great opportunities of Enhanced Podcasting (you can hear the great man Cliff Ravenscraft and his views on Enhanced Podcasting in Episode 124 of Podcast Answer Man; he’s on the other side of the coin and clearly we have a long way to go to make it the accepted standard for podcasting at large, but we at the Award believe with perseverance, education and technological advancement, this could well be the way forward) and a fabulous new podcasting production station called Hindenburg that turns your Apple i-Device into an easy-to-handle mixing studio, perfect for journalists and other audio production people on the move
- It encourages those passionate about podcasting to perform at the top of their game, and to help the podcasting industry at large be more widely recognised through promoting and profiling the European Podcast Award
- It has a very well-known sponsor in Olympus Audio Systems, that proves to the world podcasting is very much alive and kicking and ready to take its game to the next level
The launch meeting last night was two hours long, and there wasn’t a second wasted. Though the group was only four strong (there are many more Ambassadors and organisers who will be returning to the fold in the next week or two as the Award is formally launched) it was clear from the get-go that everyone was committed to making the coming year the best yet for the European Podcast Award.
The European Podcast Award features epic podcasts produced in Germany, UK, Switzerland, Finland, Denmark, Spain, Norway, France, Italy and Poland.
What about me?
As the UK Ambassador for the European Podcast Award I’ve got a job on my hands. Last year Spain and the UK produced the greatest volume of formidable podcasts and I’m excited about the challenging times ahead.
I really want to help take podcasting and audio marketing to a whole new level here in the UK and I need your help. Drop me a line if you’d be happy to host an EPA banner on your site, or for a quick promo spot to add to your podcast, or to add a short interview to your podcast about the Awards with one of the EPA team.
And if you’ve got a podcast yourself, why not nominate it for the coming year’s Award? You or a listener can do it – for more information go to the European Podcast Award website.
What about you?
This is your chance to achieve great recognition for your brand, business and audio marketing abilities. Podcasts are episodes of audio shows available for download by listeners via an RSS feed. Award categories are shown at the European Podcast Award website.
You’ll be hearing much more from me on the European Podcast Award but your absolute source of news and information about it is of course at the official EPA website. A permanent link to the European Podcast Award site will be available in the sidebar, right – so you’ve no excuse to go and find out more.
Talk podcasting with me
